UC STUDENT REGENT The Online Home of the Student Regent and Student Regent-Designate of the University of California

Mission

The Student Regent and the Student Regent-Designate are student representatives on the UC Board of Regents. They are advocates: they take student concerns and student frustration to the Regents and to the UC’s top decision-makers. They are resources: they use their unique access to get information from those decision-makers and put it in the hands of student leaders. They are watchdogs: they attempt to hold the University accountable and work to create student-friendly outcomes.

Contribute to the Student Regent Blog

The Student Regents want their blog to be a home for strong, clear student voices from across the system and from a diversity of perspectives. If you are interested in writing about an issue, please contact us via the “Ask the Student Regents” page. Our Communications and Social Media team will work with you to potentially get your views published.

    Get Involved With a Campaign

There are a number of student-led campaigns going on across the state. The Student Regents are involved in some, but not all. Regardless of their involvement, the Student Regents can direct interested people to the student leaders heading various campaigns. In the future, this section will list campaigns ongoing across the state. If you are leading a campaign or project and want increased exposure, get in touch via the “Ask the Student Regents” page.

Be a Student Advocate to the Regents

The Regents meet once every two months. At each of their meetings, a small handful of students are selected by the University of California Students Association (the statewide student government of the UC) to go behind the scenes and lobby Regents during breaks, at lunch, and so on. If you are interested in taking part — and you’ll get training from UCSA and the Student Regents — contact UCSA via their website or at 510-834-8272.

    Public Comment

At every Regents meeting, students, University employees, and members of the public are able to speak directly to the Regents in a “public comment” period. Most speakers speak for 30-60 seconds, but speakers can “pool” their time to give one speaker the opportunity to speak at greater length. If you are interested in learning more or signing up to speak at the next Regents meeting, visit the public comment section of the Regents website.
